Lisa Schaperrt, Head of Widening Participation at the university presented certificates in recognition of the students’ achievements. Congratulations to all involved – your talents shone throughout the week!

Primary School FOCUS: Themed weeks and days linked to the National Curriculum for year 5 and 6 pupils during the school term.
A recent week was run for a year 6 class from a local primary school and was themed around the Environment. Students took part in a number of exciting activities, including a special workshop held by the Royal Geographical Society and visits to the London Wetlands Centre and Holland Park Ecology Centre. The children concluded their week with a day at Imperial College, London. They took part in a university campus quiz and celebrated their achievements in their graduation ceremony.
A child attending the Focus week said "You had to work together as a team and co-operate which was lots of fun."

Extending Horizons FOCUS Weekends: Educational weekends helping to raise aspirations and motivation to achieve at school.
Young people have been to the WW1 battlefields, and WWII sites such as Anne Frank's house and the Bergen Belsen concentration camp.
From 16th – 18th March 2007 we ran a trip for 20 Year 6 children. This was organized by The Country Trust. The weekend took us to rural Suffolk where the children took part in a night walk, bird-watching, forest shelter building and much more. A fantastic weekend was had by all. Well done to all participants – you were stars!
A child who joined us on our Country Trust weekend commented "I really enjoyed the trip. I made new friends and I wish it could be longer."
We have two more trips planned for this year. Our first trip is to Ireland, from 14th – 17th April and then we are running another WW1 battlefields trip from 6th – 8th July. The trip to Ireland will be a chance for some older students to take time away from London to prepare for exams and to absorb the stunning countryside of Ireland. On our WW1 trip we will be visiting Ypres/Somme. Watch this space for more details.
