Projects: Adult education & activities

Communicate: This service provides a programme of ESOL and Basic Skills courses that are tailored to meet the changing needs of individuals and the local community and enable them to play a fuller role in the community and realise their potential.

Communicate improves the language skills of local people and raises education standards through our quality provision, therefore promoting learning, employability and personal development.  Being a grassroots organisation, providing non-threatening and accessible provision, we attract some of the most vulnerable people and enable them to participate fully in the local community.

We have run an ESOL programme for many years and it has proved to be a highly successful programme, cited as an example of good practice by several of our funders.  The course is designed for ESOL speakers on low income, the majority of whom live in the local area.  From September we also plan to run basic skills classes and embedded IT classes to accompany Entry, Level 1/2 and IELTS ESOL.

Communicate ESOL
Four levels of small, friendly ESOL classes in the local community, catering fro individual needs:

Pre-Entry Level: Focussing on the development of basic skills, such as reading, writing and numeracy.
ESOL Entry Level 1
: Concentrating on improving vocabulary, awareness of grammar and parts of speech.
ESOL Entry Level 2/3
: For students with a good spoken knowledge of English who wish to improve their language awareness, written English and grammar.

Communicate IELTS

This class enables students to attain a high quality, globally recognised accreditation in a local, friendly setting and will provide a great stepping stone before going on to our Adult IntoUniversity Programme or a college or university course.  There is an academic and general part to the exam and it is suitable for a range of abilities.

The teaching staff also organise trips as part of their curriculum enrichment work. They have led visits to galleries and museums, arranged participation in language workshops and recently explored the Houses of Parliament!

If you are interested in finding out more about the classes on offer please contact Maya Popovic or Ender Velasco.
